In this workshop, participants will learn how to prepare a loom using simple materials that you can find at home. The teaching artist will guide the group through personal reflections, and connect those feelings with weaving choices. Then each person will create a tapestry that creatively documents their thoughts. We will weave to relax, to express ourselves, to find community, and with the philosophy that there is no such thing as a mistake! Everyone will walk away with a piece of woven art.

AHRC Adult Day Services

will be hosting two of Program Open Houses for our Rockaway Parkway and Kings Highway Day Habilitation Programs.

Open houses are  a great opportunity to meet program staff, see the program meeting location and ask questions. Please encourage people supported, parents and advocates to join.

This event has been created for you and those you support as part of AHRC- Brooklyn’s One Stop Shop- Community Outreach.   One Stop Shop has been recently developed to begin a new approach to services in Brooklyn. OSS’s goal is to act as “concierge” or “relationship ambassador” with close links to program, who facilitates intake through a person centered, time-limited discovery process to support young people as they prepare to enroll in various adult services. The hope is that investing time in knowing people’s interests and aspirations will help us offer blended services that increase the quality of service.

Please see attached  flyers for more information. I encourage you all to share widely!

Open House dates are :

January 15, 2025- Kings Highway ,

355 KINGS HWY,BROOKLYN, NY 11223

The events  will host people supported and families from 5-7 pm

To register reach out to my email ( [email protected])  or to Program Director Joyce Minault ([email protected]) – we will only register a certain number for each date to allow for more intimate setting.

If  you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us!

Save the Date! Family Education, Advocacy & Support

January 15 @ 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm

Supporting Our Youth & Adults Network, Inc. (SOYAN) connects families in support of their loved-one’s ability to live a self-determined life.

To meet SOYAN’s mission, the intended participants of Family Education, Advocacy & Support meetings are self-advocates, their families and other unpaid natural supports on the Self-Direction journey. Our meetings provide a safe and confidential space for family members and unpaid natural supports to voice their concerns in a judgment free zone. These meetings are not recorded, so make every effort to attend.

Any parent or family member whose loved one receives Self-Directed services and is being paid for their services within the OPWDD system may not attend. Instead, you are encouraged to register for SOYAN’s Professional Network for Self-Direction Families. If you are interested, please register for future notifications here.
